Building a new school library

My features today are a couple of Photopeach presentations of the construction of new libraries in Australia which have come about as a result of Australia's national economic stimulus package BER (Building the Education Revolution), the brain child of the then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and the Minister for Education Julia Gillard, who is now Australia's first female Prime Minister.

The first is at Penrith Public School in New South Wales. The creator Ian Mclean has documented the whole process. I think the slideshow is also a testimony to Ian's foresight in documenting the progress of the site, as well as his and colleagues' vision of what the new library could be. See it here.

The second that has just come to my notice is here, for a new school library in Queensland, on the northern outskirts of Brisbane. Again, it is great that the creator of the Photopeach Ann Gillespie had the foresight to record before and after shots and then to document the process. Immense thought has gone into the creation of these exciting spaces.

I am more than happy to add links to other digital records for the BER if they are available. Notify me at kerrie.smith@esa.edu.au
